The City of Saint Charles Water, under the City Department of Public Works, provides water for about 33,264 residents living in the area of Saint Charles, Illinois. Established in 1834, the City of Saint Charles Water Division currently obtains its supply from groundwater provided by two separate aquifers. Four wells are drilled into the St. Charles sand and gravel Aquifer; and three wells are drilled into a deeper formation of sandstone, commonly referred to as the Galesville formation.
