Established in 1962, the Lake County Public Works - Vernon Hills currently obtains its surface water supply through purchase by Lake County from the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA). The water is pumped from Lake Michigan and treated by CLCJAWA at the Paul M. Neal Water Treatment Facility in Lake Bluff. As added reliability, interconnection to the Knollwood Water System is maintained for emergency purposes.
