The City of Sandy Water Division under the City’s Public Utilities Department, provides water for about 99,750 residents living in the Sandy area. Incorporated in 1893, the Sandy Water Division receives treated surface water from Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake &
Sandy, which is taken from Little Cottonwood Creek and from Deer Creek Reservoir. It also uses surface water sources, which comes from the Uinta Mountain streams that feed the Provo River. The City Water Division also pumps groundwater from its 23 wells when demand is high.
