Ashland Water Utility, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water to about 9,115 residents living in Ashland, in Ashland and Bayfield counties of Wisconsin. Founded in 1887, the Ashland Water Utility System currently obtains its surface water supply from Lake Superior. Furthermore, the primary pipe of the distribution system is 54 kilometers long. The diameter of this varies from one inch to twenty-four inches. A 1.4 million gallon standpipe and a 500,000 gallon raised water tower, both of which are fed by pumping booster stations, are also part of the system.
