The City of La Crosse Water, under the City Utilities Department, provides water for about 53,000 residents living in the area of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Established in 1953, the La Crosse Waterworks is currently obtaining its supply from a ground water source, 13 wells that pump from an unconsolidated alluvial sand-gravel aquifer underlying the city and the Mississippi River.
