The California American Water (CAW) - San Marino, a subsidiary of American Water Works Company, Inc. (NYSE: AWK), provides water for about 47,451 residents living in the area of San Marino, California, including portions of the cities of Rosemead, Temple City, San Gabriel, El Monte and Pasadena; as well as unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Established in 1886, the California American Water - San Marino System is currently obtaining its supply from a blend of water sources: 90% from wells that pump water from the Main San Gabriel and Raymond Basins, and 10% purchased treated surface water from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC). MWDSC uses water from the Sacramento River Delta and Colorado River, which is conveyed to Southern California via the California Aqueduct (also known as the State Water Project) and the Colorado River Aqueduct.
