Clear Water Service Corporation, a non-profit community water organization, provides water to about 14,075 residents living in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois. Founded in 1974, Clear Water Service Corporation System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily six wells that drill into the Sand and Gravel Aquifer underneath Coles County. Additionally, a purchased groundwater source, is available for distribution to East Lerna Road and North Coles-Cumberland County from Illinois American Water.
