The Madison Water Utility provides water for about 235,000 residents living in the Madison area. Established in 1882, the Madison Water Utility pumps groundwater from massive aquifers underneath the City, the Precambrian aquifer, Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer, Silurian/Niagaran aquifer, and the sand and gravel aquifers.
