Mount Zion Water Department buys water from the City of Decatur, which draws from Lake Decatur, a 2,850-acre surface area fed by the Sangamon River. The City supplements this source with water from nine Wells in Macon and Dewitt Counties and delivers to Mt. Zion Water through a water tower on South Franklin Street and a Meter at Cannon Park. Before distribution, the water undergoes treatment processes such as coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection to improve its quality.
