The Village of Mount Zion Water supplies water to about 5,833 residents in the Mount Zion area of Macon County, Illinois. Mount Zion Water Department buys water from the City of Decatur, which draws from Lake Decatur, a 2,850-acre surface area fed by the Sangamon River. The City supplements this source with water from nine Wells in Macon and Dewitt Counties and delivers to Mt. Zion Water through a water tower on South Franklin Street and a Meter at Cannon Park. Before distribution, the water undergoes treatment processes such as coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection to improve its quality.
