The Riverdale Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works – Utilities Division, provides water for about 13,549 residents living in the area of Riverdale, a village in Cook County, Illinois. Established in 1888, the Riverdale Water System currently obtains its supply via purchase from the City of Chicago. The City of Chicago utilizes surface water, primarily Lake Michigan as its source via two water treatment plants. The Jardine Water Purification Plant serves the northern areas of the city and suburbs, while the South Water Purification Plant serves the southern areas of the city and suburbs.
