The South Whitehall Township Authority - Main System, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works - Water and Sewer, provides water for about 14,500 residents living in the area of South Whitehall, a township in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Established in 1810, the South Whitehall Township Authority - Main System currently obtains its supply from a blend of sources, primarily from nine active wells located within the township. Four wells draw from the Beekmantown Group of aquifers and five draw from the Allentown Formation aquifers. In addition, the Authority purchases treated surface water from the Lehigh County Authority Allentown Division and has an emergency interconnection with Lehigh County Authority Suburban Division.
