The Miramar Water under the City Utility Services Department, provides water for about 127,700 residents living in the Miramar area. Established in 1955, the Miramar Water operates two Treatment Plants, the East Water Treatment Plant and the West Water Treatment Plant, which draw groundwater supply from two underground reservoirs, (1) the Biscayne Aquifer, recharged primarily by rainfall and by surface water sources such as Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades, and (2) the Floridan Aquifer, a deeper and more confined aquifer.
