The Canton Township Water, a public community water system under the Township Department of Public Works, provides water for about 90,000 residents living in the area of Canton Township, Michigan. Established in 1834, the Canton Township System is currently obtaining its supply via purchase from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA). Raw water is drawn from a surface water source, the Detroit River, situated within the Lake St. Clair, Clinton River, Detroit River, Rouge River, Ecorse River, in the U.S. and parts of the Thames River, Little River, Turkey Creek, and Sydenham watersheds in Canada.
