Established in 1940, the City of Farmington Hills Water is currently obtaining its supply via purchase from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), which source water comes from surface water sources: Lower Lake Huron watershed or the Detroit River, situated within the Lake St. Clair, Clinton River, Detroit River, Rouge River, Ecorse River, in the U.S. and parts of the Thames River, Little River, Turkey Creek and Sydenham water in Canada.
