The City of Sterling Heights Water, under the City Public Works Department, provides water for about 127,000 residents living in the Sterling Heights area. Established in 1968, the Sterling Heights City Water collects water from two sources : (1) The Detroit River, within Lake St. Clair, and several watersheds within the United States and Canada, and (2) The lower Lake Huron watershed, which includes numerous short, seasonal streams that drain to Lake Huron.
