The Moorhead Public Service (MPS) Water, a consumer-owned electric and water utility company, provides water for about 42,005 residents living in the area of Moorhead, Minnesota. Established in 1881, the Moorhead Public Service Water System is currently obtaining its supply from a blend of sources: surface water drawn from the Red River and groundwater from seven wells that draw water from the Quaternary Buried Unconfined and Quaternary Buried Artesian aquifers.
