The City of Golden Valley Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water for about 20,976 residents living in the area of Golden Valley City, Minnesota. Established in 1886, the Golden Valley Water System is currently obtaining its supply through purchase from the Joint Water Commission (JWC) of the cities: Golden Valley, Crystal, and New Hope. JWC purchases water from the City of Minneapolis, which draws its water supply from the Mississippi River, a surface water source.
