The City of Bloomington Water, under the City Utilities Department, provides water for about 85,400 residents living in the Bloomington area, Minnesota. Established in 1960, the City of Bloomington collects water from a combination of groundwater and surface water sources. The groundwater fulfilled 71% of the City’s water need, via six deep wells that draw from the Jordan, Prairie du Chien-Jordan, Tunnel City-Mount Simon and Jordan-St. Lawrence aquifers. The remaining 29% of supply comes from surface water purchased from Minneapolis’ surface water treatment plant that takes raw water from the Mississippi River.
