The Western Virginia Water Authority supplies water to about 155,000 residents living in the Roanoke area in Roanoke, Franklin, and Botetourt Counties, Virginia. The Western Virginia Water Authority collects water from four surface water sources and multiple springs and groundwater wells. The source water comes from Carvins Cove Reservoir, Country Hills, Crystal and Muse Spring Treatment Facilities, Falling Creek, Martin Creek, and Spring Hollow Reservoir. The water from Spring Hollow Reservoir is pumped from the Roanoke River. The Authority also purchases water from the City of Salem, which draws from Roanoke River and three groundwater wells.
