The Frederick Water, a regional water and wastewater system in Frederick County, provides water for about 44,228 residents living in the area of Winchester, Virginia. Established in 1967, the Frederick Water System is currently obtaining its supply from surface water sources, quarries in Stephens City and Clearbrook, and treated at the James H. Diehl Water Filtration Plant and the James T. Anderson Water Filtration Plant. Additional water is also purchased from the City of Winchester, which uses water from the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.
