The Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA) - Urban Area Water, the sole public retail provider of public water and sewer service in Albemarle County, provides water for about 65,005 residents living in the area of Charlottesville City, Virginia. Established in 1964, the ACSA Urban Area Water is currently obtaining its supply via purchase from the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA), which uses surface water sources: South Rivann, Ragged Mountain and Sugar Hollow reservoirs; and Totier and Beaver Creeks.
