Founded in 1857, the City of Leesburg Utilities - East System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily 15 wells that drill into the Floridan Aquifer underneath the area. The water service area covers 26 square miles, both inside and beyond the city borders. The 332 miles of water mains, one booster station facility, four ground storage tanks, and three elevated storage tanks make up most of the water distribution system. Two 10,000-gallon hydropneumatic tanks are also present.
