The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) is a public non-profit municipal corporation established on 1929 to provide drinking water
and sewer service for about 390,887 residents in eight towns in the Hartford area. The MDC’s untreated water comes entirely from surface water sources in watersheds (drainage areas) such as: Barkhamsted Reservoir through Saville Dam in New Hartford, and Nepaug Reservoir by the Phelps Brook and Nepaug Dams in Collinsville. These reservoirs are part of the larger Farmington River watershed in Connecticut’s northwest hills.

WaterZen Rating

Lead levels in the drinking water of some cities across the United States are too high, potentially creating public-health issues for the people living in those areas.

What about Metropolitan District Commission? How much lead is in your drinking water? And how do those levels compare to other cities in the state? We examined data from hundreds of cities across the nation to understand and grade your water quality.

As you can see, Metropolitan District Commission received an above-average grade because the amounts of contaminants found in the water supply were lower than most other water providers we've analyzed.
