Portsmouth Public Utilities

The Portsmouth Public Utilities, a self-supporting public service organization, provides water for about 120,400 living in the Portsmouth area, and certain areas of Suffolk and Chesapeake. Established in 1879, the Portsmouth Public Utilities collects water from four surface lakes: Lake Meade, Cohoon, Speight’s Run, and Lake Kilby, and groundwater from five deep wells.
