The Safety Harbor Water Department provides water for about 16,473 residents living in the Safety Harbor area, Pinellas County, Florida. The Safety Harbor Water Department purchases water from Pinellas County Water System which gets water from Tampa Bay Water. Tampa Bay Water is a blended source of groundwater, treated surface water, and desalinated water. The groundwater is sourced from eleven wellfields that draw from the Floridian Aquifer. The surface water is sourced from the Alafia River, Hillsborough River, C. W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir, and Tampa Bypass Canal. Hillsborough Bay is the primary source of desalinated water. Potable water is created by combining these water sources, as well as the Eldridge-Wilde Wellfield, and then transported to pumping stations, where it is treated further before being distributed to residences.
