The Sarasota County Department of Public Utilities provides water for about 55,364 residents living in the area of Sarasota, Florida. Established in 1921, the Sarasota County Public Utilities is currently obtaining its supply from a combination of purchased sources: 63% from Peace River/Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority (Peace River and wells draw from the Floridan Aquifer), 23% from Manatee County (Manatee River and wells draw from the Floridan Aquifer), University Parkway Jacaranda Water Treatment Facility and T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Water Treatment Facility (wells draw from Floridan Aquifer).
