The Sarasota County Water, under the City Special Utility District (SCSUD) provides water for about 171,009 residents living in the Sarasota area. Established in 1902, the Sarasota County Special Utility District collects surface and groundwater from wells drawn from the Intermediate and Floridan aquifers, the Manatee River and the Peace River through T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Water Treatment Facility (10%), University Parkway and Jacaranda Water Treatment Facility (4%), Purchase from Manatee County (22%), and Purchase from Peace River/Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority (64%).
