The Town of Warrenton Utilities, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works & Utilities, provides water to about 11,628 residents living in Warrenton, a town in and the county seat of Fauquier County, Virginia. Founded in 1810, the Town of Warrenton Utilities System currently obtains its supply from a mix of surface water and groundwater supplies. Surface water is obtained from Warrenton Reservoir, with an approximate capacity of 120 million gallons located in the north area of the town, and Airlie Reservoir, with an approximate capacity of 183 million gallons located in the northwest area of the town. Water from the reservoirs is then treated by the water filtration plant at Blackwell Road, Warrenton. There are three groundwater sources, namely: Well#2 located in the east area of town with a capacity of approximately 200 thousand gallons per day, and Well #5 located in the northwest area of town with a capacity of approximately 52 thousand gallons per day, and Well#6 located in the north area of town with a capacity of approximately 20 thousand gallons per day.
