The Traverse Water, a public community water system under the City Department of Municipal Utilities - Public Services, provides water for about 14,532 residents living in the area of Traverse, a city in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties, Michigan. Established in 1847 and incorporated as a city in 1895, Traverse City Water System currently obtains its supply from a surface water source, the east arm of Grand Traverse Bay, a deep bay, and the northeastern arm of Lake Michigan.
