The Washington County Service Authority (WCSA), a regional water and wastewater utility service operator, provides water for about 47,574 residents living in the area of Abingdon, Virginia. Established in 1976, the Washington County Service Authority is currently obtaining its supply from one or more of the following water system and sources: Main System’s surface water from the Middle Fork Holston River & South Fork Holston River and groundwater from Mill Creek, Cole, Widener and Reservation Springs; Mendota System’s Mendota groundwater well and purchased surface water (Big Moccasin Gap Creek) from the Scott County Public Service Authority; Hayter Gap System’s groundwater from Cardwell Town and Saltville No.10 wells purchased from the Town of Saltville; and the Hidden Valley System’s Big Cedar Creek purchased from the Russell County Public Service Authority.
