The Washington Township Water, a public community water system under the Charter Township Water & Sewer Division of the Department of Public Works, provides water for about 15,828 residents living in Washington, located within Metro Detroit, is a charter township of Macomb County in Michigan. Established in 1827, the Washington Township Water System's current supply is delivered by The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), which in 2015 received a grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to develop a source water protection program for the Lake Huron water treatment plant intake. These are groundwater sources, primarily wells that pump from the lower Lake Huron watershed which includes numerous short, seasonal streams that drain to Lake Huron.
