The Village of Ilion provides water service to about 8,053 residents in the Ilion area of Herkimer County, New York. The Ilion Water Department obtains surface water from creeks and reservoirs and supplements it with water from two groundwater wells. Before distribution, the surface water is purified by Slow Sand Gravity Filtration, disinfected with chlorine and ultraviolet light, and treated with phosphate for corrosion control. The groundwater is chlorinated and treated with a blend of phosphate compounds to prevent corrosion and remove iron contaminants.
