The Effingham County Surface Water System supplies water to about 9,869 residents living in the Springfield area, Georgia. The Water System obtains water from two sources - groundwater wells tapping the Floridan aquifer and the Savannah I & D System water, which flows from Abercorn Creek, a tributary of the Savannah River. The water is filtered and disinfected with chloramine and added with lime to adjust the pH and phosphate to make it less corrosive.
