The Columbia Water Department operates and maintains the drinking water treatment, distribution, and storage system that serves for about 375,000 residents living within City of Columbia limits, major portions of Richland County, portions of Lexington County and other local communities. Established in 1790, the City of Columbia operates two drinking water treatment plants. One draws water from the Broad River Diversion Canal (Canal Plant) and the other draws from Lake Murray (Lake Plant).

WaterZen Rating

Lead levels in the drinking water of some cities across the United States are too high, potentially creating public-health issues for the people living in those areas.

What about Columbia City Water? How much lead is in your drinking water? And how do those levels compare to other cities in the state? We examined data from hundreds of cities across the nation to understand and grade your water quality.

As you can see, Columbia City Water received an average grade because the amounts of contaminants found in the water supply were higher than most other water providers we've analyzed.
