The city of Georgetown Utilities is a public community water system under the local government that provides water to about 9,304 residents living in Georgetown, the county seat of Georgetown County, in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Founded in 1729, the City of Georgetown Utilities System currently obtains its supply primarily from surface water drawn from the Pee Dee River. The groundwater sources, primarily two wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area, serve as the water systems' backup supply.
