The City of Monroe Water System, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Works, provides water for about 52,572 residents living in the area of Monroe, Louisiana. Established in 1906, the City of Monroe Water System is currently obtaining its supply from a surface water source, Bayou Desiard, which comes from upstream bayou and lakes - Bayou Bart, Lake Bart, Black Bayou - as well as the Ouachita River that flow into Bayou Desiard.
