The Erie County Water System - Margaretta District serves 5,131 people in Margaretta Township, as well as the villages of Bay View and Castalia in Ohio. Erie County's water originates from Lake Erie and is purchased from the Cities of Sandusky, Huron, and Vermilion and the Northern Ohio Rural Water Authority, which all treat water from the source. The Margaretta District receives water from the City of Sandusky Public Water System, which has an emergency backup intake in Sandusky Bay in addition to the primary intake located in Lake Erie.
