Metropolis has multiple water providers: Metropolis Utilities and Fort Massac Water District. This page provides information about Metropolis Utilities.

The City of Metropolis Water, a public community water system under the Department of Public Works, provides water to about 6,830 residents living in Metropolis, situated on the Ohio River's banks in Massac County. Founded in 1839, the City of Metropolis Water System currently obtains water from groundwater sources, primarily wells that drill into the aquifer underneath the area. The Metropolis has a total of eight wells, but only three are active, and the five remaining wells are now abandoned.
