The Spotsylvania County Utilities provides water for about 84,390 residents living in the Fredericksburg area, Virginia. Established in 1721, the Spotsylvania County Utilities collects water from four surface water sources: (1) The Ni River Water Treatment Plant draws water from the Ni Reservoir; (2) the Motts Water Treatment Plant, which draws water from the Motts Run Reservoir and from (3) the Rappahannock River; and (4) the Hunting Run Reservoir, which can release water into the Rapidan River.
