West Side Water-Lansing Township, a public community water system under the local government, provides water to about 5,500 residents living in Lansing, Michigan. Founded in 1842, the West Side Water-Lansing Township System currently purchases its groundwater supply from the Lansing Board of Water & Light, which obtains water from 125 wells excavated roughly 400 feet beneath the surface of the planet. The Saginaw Formation, an underground aquifer that sits beneath much of the mid-Michigan region, is the source of this abundant supply. Large transmission mains carry well water to one of two conditioning plants.
