The Algona Municipal Utilities provides water services to about 5,487 residents of Algona in Kossuth County. Founded in 1889, Algona Municipal Utilities obtains water from four wells that pump groundwater from a buried sand and gravel Cretaceous (Dakota Sandstone) aquifer. The water is subjected to aeration, filtration, fluoridation, and chlorination during treatment to improve its quality before use.
