The City of Ankeny Water System, under the City Department of Municipal Utilities, provides water for about 62,416 residents living in the area of Ankeny, Iowa. Established in 1903, the City of Ankeny Public Utilities is currently obtaining its supply via purchase from the Des Moines Water Works (DMWW). DMWW uses a combination of sources: surface water from the Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers, and Maffitt and Raccoon Reservoirs; and groundwater from the Alluvial and Cambrian-Ordovician Aquifers.
