The Washington County Water System supplies water to about 6,693 people living in the Cities of Roper, Plymouth, and Creswell, North Carolina. Washington County Water System draws water from the Castle Hayne Aquifer using three wells with an average depth of 280 feet. The wells are low in susceptibility to pollution and include Well #1 on-site, Well #2 located 0.5 miles from the plant on West Old Mill Rd, and Well #3 one mile from the plant on Slough Road. The water is treated with hydrogen peroxide to control Hydrogen Sulfide bacteria, chlorine and chloramine for disinfection, and polyorthophosphate for corrosion control. A distribution system comprising roughly 135 miles of pipeline is used for water distribution.
