Beaufort County Water—Southside is a public community water system under the Department of Public Works that provides water to about 9,263 residents living in Edward, North Carolina. Founded in 1989, the Beaufort County Water-Southside System currently obtains its supply from groundwater sources, primarily six wells that drill into the Castle Hayne Aquifer and Pee Dee Aquifer underneath the area. Additionally, these wells are located along Highway 33 East, 5 to 10 miles east of Chocowinity, and along Old Sandhill Road. They pump raw water to two water treatment plants, which are also located along Highway 33 East and Old Sandhill Road, and then store it in four tanks, three of which are elevated and one on the ground.
