Town of Shallotte Water, a public community water system under the Department of Public Works, provides water to about 5,862 residents in Shallotte, Brunswick County, North Carolina. Founded in 1899, the Town of Shallotte Water System currently purchases its supply from the Brunswick County Water System, which obtains water from two sources. First, groundwater sources, primarily 14 wells that drill approximately 175 feet into the Castle Hayne Aquifer below the ground's surface are stored and treated in Southport where the 211 Water Treatment Plant is. Additionally, a surface water source from the Cape Fear River is pumped into the Northwest Water Treatment Plant in Leland for treatment before distribution.
