The Mesquite Water, under the City Utilities Department, provides water for about 143,350 residents living in the Mesquite area. Established in 1873, the Mesquite Water collects surface water delivered from Lavon Lake and is supplemented by water from Lake Texoma, Jim Chapman Lake, Lake Tawakoni and the East Fork Raw Water Supply Project (Wetland).
