Bright Star-Salem Special Utility District, a retail water and wastewater services corporation, provides water to about 6,738 residents living in Alba, on the western edge of Wood County and south of Lake Fork, Texas. Founded in 1998, the Bright Star-Salem Special Utility District System currently obtains its supply from two major sources. The groundwater sources, primarily ten wells that are approximately 350 inches deep and drilled into the Wilcox Aquifer underneath the area, are distributed to the Alba, Salem, Pleasant Ridge, Bright Star, and Colony communities, including US Hwy 69, State Hwy 182, and parts of FM Hwy 17 North. The surface water source from Lake Fork Reservoir is distributed to Steamboat Shores, Lake Fork Estates, Dream Hills, Bent Fork, The Ranch, Stonebriar, Lake Fork Marina, Paradise Forest, Little Mustang Cove, and all residents located off Rains County Road 3330 and Hwy 515.
