The City of Alamogordo Water System, under the City Department of Public Works, provides water for about 38,500 residents living in the area of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Established in 1898, the City of Alamogordo Water System currently obtains its supply from surface water sources in the Fresnal and La Luz Canyon systems, which involves the Sacramento Mountains north and east of the City, Bonito Lake, and other tributaries. The City also operates ten local groundwater wells for supplemental purposes when the demand arises.
