The New Mexico Water Service Company - Rio Communities Water System supplies water to about 5,374 residents of Rio Communities in Valencia County. New Mexico Water Service Company provides the Rio Communities Water System with water from wells in the Santa Fe Formation of the Rio Grande Aquifer. The formation runs from the Cochiti Reservoir on the north to San Acacia on the south, and from the Sandia Mountains on the east to hills west of the Rio Puerco. The water is disinfected to kill germs and stored in a steel reservoir of 1.5 million gallons.
