The City of McKinney Water, under the City Public Works Department, provides water for about 169,710 residents living in the McKinney area. Established in 1849, the City of McKinney Water purchases treated surface water from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) collected from Jim Chapman Lake, Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni, and the East Fork Raw Water Supply Project (Wetland).
